Anderson Valley Gatlin Damnosus at the Independent Bar Tampa

A sour ale produced by aging barleywine in bourbon barrels for extended periods of time (as long as 2 years in some cases!) Gatlin Damnosus aroma is reminiscent of earthy red wines with a background of caramel and honey, with just a hint of wood and sourness. The flavor is intensely sour with a touch of acetic acid and notes of brown malt toast and ripe red fruit. The bourbon character really adds a savory, woody component that yields subtle notes of coconut and vanilla.

Cigar City Humidor Jai Alai IPA at the Independent Bar Tampa

Each beer in the Humidor Series is aged on Spanish cedar (cedrela), the same wood used to make cigar boxes. The Spanish cedar imparts notes of white pepper, sandalwood and other spices.

From Cigar City: "Our flagship beer in the Humidor Series is Humidor Series India Pale Ale. We start with Jai Alai IPA as a base beer and add the cedar during secondary fermentation. The cedar provides a perfect balance with the assertive hops of Jai Alai to create an entirely new experience."

Weyerbacher Merry Monks Ale at the Independent Bar Tampa

Merry Monks’ is a Belgian style Abby Tripel. To be true to the style, Merry Monks’ Ale is bottle conditioned. This means we add a bit of sugar and yeast just prior to bottling. This imparts a special effervescence to the beer, a creamier carbonation, and also extends the shelf life. The on-going fermentation inside the bottle will change the character of the beer as it ages, and you’ll find it becomes dryer with age. You may want to lay down a few bottles for future evaluation. We suggest storing at cellar temperatures – around 55°F – and away from light.

When you try this beer you’re in for a unique treat. The special effervescence and creaminess are immediately apparent when pouring. The pilsner malts combined with the Belgian yeast strains yield a remarkable and complex flavor- perhaps you’ll note subtle hints of banana. The flavor is nicely balanced and the finish moderate to dry, begging for the next sip. This 9.3% brew is available year-round.

Duchesse de Bourgogne on tap at the Independent Bar Tampa !

Duchesse de Bourgogne on tap at the Independent Bar Tampa ! Duchesse de Bourgogne is a Flanders red ale-style beer produced by Brouwerij Verhaeghe in VichteBelgium. After a primary and secondary fermentation, this ale is matured in oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a blend of a younger 8-month-old beer with an 18-month-old beer. The name of the beer is meant to honor Duchess Mary of Burgundy, the only daughter of Charles the Bold, born in Brussels in 1457, who died young in a horse riding accident. Like all Flemish red ales, Duchesse de Bourgogne has a characteristically sour, fruity flavor similar to that of lambic beers.

Leviathan Baltic Porter : Now On Tap At the Independent Bar Tampa

NOW ON TAP!! Harpoon Brewery Leviathan Baltic Porter (9.5% ABV). This is a dark, strong beer with considerable complexity. Brewed with a highly alcohol-tolerant strain of lager yeast, it has a smooth, full flavor with dark fruit and licorice notes in the aroma. De-husked roasted malt lends a dark chocolate character without being sharp or harsh. Raw sugar and dark crystal malt give some raisin and molasses notes while East Kent Goldings hops make for a long, earthy finish. So good!
