Shipyard Pumpkin Head Ale at the Independent Bar
Shipyard Pumkinhead Ale is more Ale than Pumpkin, but that seems to be the intention with this seasonal brew.
Where many Pumpkin Ales of all stripes rely heavily on the sometimes overwhelming flavor of pumpkin pie, or extreme spices this ale rests more on the ale itself, but with seasonal spices and the hint at the orange gourd included in a brewing process. If you want a cloistering thick and super sweet pumpkin pie style beer, or a true spiced ale, Shipyard's Pumpkin head is not for you. But for those that want their beer to be more a drink than a meal, then this may be an excellent choice.
Pours golden, and has obvious flavors and scents of nutmeg and cinnamon. A suble pumkin flavor follows, not overwhelming at all. Mouthfeel is light, and easy to drink, without a heavy aftertaste.
For those that are just entering in the seasonal and veggie beer fold, Shipyard is a good point of entry.
Available at the Independent Bar Tampa for a limited time.
