Rodenbach Grand Cru - on Tap at the Independent Bar Tampa

Rodenbach Grand Cru - now on tap at the Independent Bar Rodenbach Grand Cru is a blend of new beer and old that has been aged in oak vats. A complex tart taste reminiscent of a Flemish Red Ale with complex wine notes is the result.

This is a complex beer with lots of wood and fruity esters, wine-like with a balsamic vinegar acidic note. A sharp taste, fruity, refreshing with a balanced Madeira-like sweetness.

Lagunitas Bavarian DoppelWeizen on Tap at the Independent Bar Tampa

Now on tap at the Independent Bar Tampa: Lagunitas Bavarian Styled Doppel Weizen!

This is a limited beer that is now available at the Independent Bar Tampa.

Lagunitas DoppelWeizen available at the Independent Bar, Tampa's World Class Beer Bar! Lagunitas has been in the process of constructing a larger brewery to increase production of their excellent beers, and Rolec, the fellows that are building it brought along some very special Bavarian Yeast as a gift, which Lagunitas Brewery then took and used to make this very special beer. But as will all things Lagunitas, they have turned it up a notch.

This DoppelWeizen is unfiltered and a goldenrod yellow in pouring, the aromas are white peppers, bannanas, cloves and fruit spice. Tastes follow the aroma, with the wheat and the malt kicking in, a bit of alcohol tinge, and a sweet finish balanced by some tartness. Overall a pleasantly complex taste, mixed with 9% ABV makes for a potent brew that is also enjoyable. A winner! Come try some today at the Independent Tampa, a world class Beer Bar

On Tap at the Independent Bar: Schneider Weisse Weissbier

An original Weissbier, Schneider Weisse comes from a Bavarian brewery company founded in 1872 by Georg Schneider I and his son of the same name, after they acquired the Weisses Brauhaus in Munich; the oldest wheat beer brewery in the city.

The Original version from this brewery is amber-mahogany in color, this beer has a laced head that leaves traces on the glass. It is subtly fruity with a typical top-fermented smell, and an aroma of cloves nutmeg and apple. The taste is fresh, clean, full-bodied, and well-balanced. It finishes with a light, delicate taste of bitters leaving behind a slight sour impression.

From Scheider Weisse:

The wheat comes from the upper Altmühltal, lower Bavaria, and Upper Palatinate regions. The malting barley is grown in the Kelheim and Riedenburg areas. Hallertau hops are used to give the beers their bittering and aromatic properties.

And of note, the Schneider's have been at it for some time, now on it's 7th generation of brewers, and is still family run:

The Schneider Dynasty:

  • Georg Schneider I (1817-1890)
  • Georg Schneider II (1846-1890)
  • Georg Schneider III (1870-1905)
  • Mathilde Schneider (1877-1973)
  • Georg Schneider IV (1900-1991)
  • Georg Schneider V (1928-)
  • Georg Schneider VI (1965-)

On Tap at the Independent Bar Tampa: Dogfish Head  Sah'Tea

A take-off on a Finnish style beer called sahti. Brewed with rye, they caramelize the wort with white hot river rocks, then ferment it with a German Weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged directly from the Finnish country-side they added a sort of tea made with black tea, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and black pepper. Has earthy overtones, and a banana breaded flavor mixed in with the spices, and sweetness. Interesting and delicious!

On Tap: Unibroue Raftman at the Independent Bar Tampa, Florida

Unibroue Raftman at the Independent Bar  The inspiration behind Raftman from Unibroue is based upon the legendary courage of the early Quebec lumberjacks, who after hard days toil on the lakes and rivers rolling logs, would settle their days and differences over ale and whiskey; both made from a malted barley. What results is a 2011 World Beer Championship winner, and a beer that confuses critics, and pleases the drinker. Is is a Belgian Style Pale? In many ways, yes it is, but the Whiskey Malts take it in a different direction. Is it a smoked beer? Not by the traditional sense at all, but there is that peat highland overtone aroma that reminds one of that brewing tradition without being cloistering to the senses. This is an easy drinking beer, and has a clean mouth feel, with ripe flavors, a subtle spice, and pleasant warm maltiness. Previously this beer was only available in Canada. Now we bring this beer to you here in lovely Florida.
