Today: Sixpoint Resin IPA on Tap!

This beer is a favorite of our web administrator & graphic designer, Shawn. At present he is drinking one of these and is "totally stoked" to give you this review of the beer on draught.

"I first had this beer during a beer tasting up in Brooklyn, and like an ace, I managed to secure a few full pints of it, and wandered around drinking them then and there. I was very thirsty, but my bout of beer gluttony came back to haunt me. I didn't realize this was 9% ABV, and I am by no means a beer amateur... this is the most sneaky strong beer I have ever had, no boozy taste whatsoever. This is one of the smoothest, tastiest IPAs scratch that ... this is a DIPA = Double IPA ... made with resinous hops? It's floral, it's not overwhelmingly piney, and it's pleasantly grapefruit rindish (is that even a word ?- editor), it's refreshing, and if you drink 4 of them very quickly you will be singing Neil Diamond songs. I didn't even know that I knew Neil Diamond songs by heart."

Shawn went on for some time longer in this review, typos and made up words and all but we are cutting him off there. Sixpoint Resin is normally only available in small  cans, but we just happen to have it on draft at the Independent Bar Tampa to serve as pints for a limited time.

Great Divide Brewing: Oatmeal Yeti

Oatmeal Yeti is an American Double / Imperial Style Stout. At 9.50 ABV it's just strong enough to keep your attention, but the dried fruit overtones and dark smoothness of the brew will make you crave it again.

Limited Availability: Cigar City Horchata Ale from the Cervezas Frescas Series

NOW ON TAP! CIGAR CITY HORCHATA ALE (7% abv). The second beer in the Cervezas Frescas Series, a series that specializes in highlighting refreshing fruit drinks popular in Latin countries. This very unique beer was brewed with copious amounts of rice and lactose sugar and finished off with vanilla beans and cinnamon. The result is a 7% ABV refreshing tasty beverage very reminiscent of the popular drink. This beer tastes like NOTHING you have ever had!!

BRASSERIE DUPONT SAISON DUPONT DRY HOPPING (6.5% ABV)

NOW ON TAP!! BRASSERIE DUPONT SAISON DUPONT DRY HOPPING (6.5% ABV) a limited release beer, featuring the famous Triskel hop varietal from Alsace. Triskel is bred from the French Strissespalt and English Yeoman hops. Dupont’s master brewer, Oliver Dedeycker, describes it as “combining the aromatic notes, mainly floral, of Strisselspalt with the fruity character of Yeoman.” The unusual name, Triskel, was apparently inspired by triskelion, the symbol of the Gauls, those beer drinking ancestors of the French, which represents the three elements: Earth, Air and Water.

Tasting Notes: Cloudy orange color, big head, lots of lace, dry, hoppy, citrus lower than usual in this example, hints of citrus & lemon but subdued, no spice used but peppery & spicy in aroma & flavor, hallertauer hops & pilsner malt, hops coming forward in finish. Pure Deliciousness.

BRASSERIE OMMEGANG GAME OF THRONES IRON THRONE BLONDE ALE

BACK ON TAP! BRASSERIE OMMEGANG GAME OF THRONES IRON THRONE BLONDE ALE (6.7% ABV)!!! Drink the beer out of a horn like they do on the show, if you've got one. Otherwise, a tulip will do just fine. The brewers chose a blonde ale to match the color of the current king's hair, and the liquid reflects this choice, shimmering like liquid gold below the pillowy eggshell cap.

In the nose, you can detect a touch of unripe pear, a hint of honey, a handful of biscuits. But this isn't all. Viewers of the show know that Joffrey is, above all else, a huge dick, and that a beer based on him wouldn't be appropriate unless it also had some bite. The aforementioned noble hops as well as additions of grains of paradise and citrus peel lend some edge to the delicate ale. In the flavor, this bitterness is offset with hints of apple (both red and green), as well as saltines, pears, and a touch of tartness. The light, highly effervescent body pops and fizzles in the mouth before a finish as dry as the Garden of Bones, the desert around the city of Qarth. Lingering floral bitterness is all that remains.

This beer is YUMMY!
